About Mr. Jones

Hello and welcome to our online classroom!! My name is Derek Jones and I will have the privilege of teaching and mentoring your children at Covenant Classical Academy.  I was born and raised in Owensboro, KY, and graduated from Apollo High School in 2004.  I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Worldviews and Apologetics at Boyce College of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  I have lived in Louisville now for almost six years, and am proud to call it home.  Working in children's ministry, teaching children on mission trips, and substitute teaching for the public school system sparked my love for teaching.  I plan to pursue my masters while teaching and eventually my doctorate. I would then require all students to call me Kentuckiana Jones!
In 2007 I married my lovely wife Whitney. She is currently in nursing school to become an RN.  Whitney is pregnant with what will be our first child, a girl named Campbell Avery Jones.  Campbell will be joining us around the first week of December.  Whitney and I recently bought our first home in J-Town and have been loving life as homeowners. We have two dogs. One is a wheaten terrier named Ernie, and the other is a mix between a scottish terrier-chihuahua-and demon. While Ernie is sweet and all licks, Buster has been known to try and have toes for dinner.  For the past two years we have attend Sojourn Community Church. For more information concerning my family life feel free to visit my wife's blog  memrsjones.blogspot.com
While I am not working, I enjoy sports and outdoors.  I love playing just about all sports, and Whitney and I love camping.  I am an avid UK fan, and all students who feel otherwise will be docked points on their final grade!  I love movies, music, and good food.  Whitney and I also love to travel in order to see more of the world in which God has made for our enjoyment.
I am looking forward to a great school year knowing that I have amazing students, and a great team of colleagues at CCA.  Thank you for your diligence and love in raising your children in order that they are better prepared to learn in the classroom. I hope this blog will act like an online classroom enabling you as parents to see your children at work, and have a better understanding of their lessons in order to help you help them.
